If you plant it, you can eat as much as you want.

The past couple of years I have planted some of my own veggies and herbs. Mind you I usually order them on Burpee.com, in February. Come May, all my veggies and herbs arrive on my doorstep. I really feel it is a win win. I don’t have the best of a green thumb, and maybe half the stuff either dies or the chipmunks eat all our tomatoes. But what does grow and what grows for me we love. I have tried everything from different types of squash, tomatoes, all sorts of peppers. Green beans, watermelon, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries oh and this year I started romaine lettuce. And that isn’t including all the herbs I grow, which is almost every kind.

This past weekend in Cleveland, was beautiful. I mean, it felt like summer. It was a tease. I mean, I hope it lasts. With the feel of summer and looking at the frost for the next couple of weeks, I decided to just go for it. So I spent my weekend, in the garden. Enjoying the fresh air. Watching the kids and dog run around in the yard. Taking the hose to each other and the laughter that came with it and usually followed by tears of some sort, by who knows what.

One pepper I love growing and I grow every year is Big Daddy Jalapeños. Believe it or not, these guys, grow amazing here in Cleveland. Two years ago I froze over 50 come end of season. They are just amazing.

Trying a new spot this year for stuff. Up until last week, we had three massive holy bushes. The best thing we did. Wish we did it sooner. I personally think they are so tacky, but that is my opinion. So let’s see how it goes. I’ll keep you updated.

Tomato’s are another we grow really well here, especially in our backyard. I just wish we could actually eat most of them. Ugh the chipmunks are my worst enemy in the summer. I even try to teach our dog to go after them. I will say there is two good things that comes out of chipmunks eating your tomatoes. Can you guess it? Well you need to pick them early. Which means pickled green tomatoes and fried green tomatoes. I don’t know about you, but if I’m at a restaurant and I see fried green tomatoes or Bon Mi sandwiches on the menu I order them. Fried green tomatoes are a staple in my southern roots, which only goes as far as me. Ha!
